Gallery: Boys Varsity Soccer Falls to Mill Valley in the Quarterfinals, Ending in a Penalty Shootout

After 4 different golden goal overtime periods adding of 30 additional minutes, the Boys’ Varsity Soccer team lost to Mill Valley 3-2, ending in sudden death penalty kicks. The first 50 students who arrived to the game received free admission, and the bleachers were full. No goals were scored in the first half, starting the second half 0-0. The first goal was scored by Mill Valley, shortly followed by a goal by junior Connor Neusel. Putting the Lancers behind again, Mill Valley scored another goal. With a breakaway, junior Beck Rettemaier tied the game again, ending regular time 2-2. Four overtime periods took place with the golden goal rule, meaning whoever scored first would win. After 30 minutes, neither team scored, leading to a penalty shootout. After 5 penalty kicks, Mill Valley and East were tied, and Mill Valley won 8-7 in sudden death, advancing to state semi-finals in Wichita.

The loss concluded the boys’ season, ending with a record of 13-3-3. The team finished 4th overall in the Sunflower League, Regional Championship winners, and a State Qualifying team.

Senior Clara Peters is so excited for her fourth year on the Harbinger staff as a Head Print Photo Editor. When she’s not editing photos, designing photostories, or holding her camera, you’ll find her hanging out with friends, walking her dogs or listening to music. Emily Pollock, Photo Mentor

Senior Emily Pollock is going into her last year on The Harbinger as a photo mentor. She is excited to spend her senior year at deadlines, in the J-room and on many photo adventures. Outside of The Harbinger she’s involved in tennis, swimming, DECA and lacrosse. When she isn’t shooting, you can find her at Starbucks, Barnes and Noble or hanging with her friends. Emily cannot wait to see what the year brings on The Harbinger.

Madi Maupin, Staff Artist

Sophomore Madi Maupin is starting her first semester with The Harbinger as a photographer and artist. Along with The Harbinger, Madi is involved with STUCO, soccer and is the boys JV soccer manager. In Madi’s free time she enjoys being with her friends and family, playing soccer, going to the lake, driving around with her friends, and working. Madi is so excited for this upcoming semester and the new experiences and memories Madi will create.
