Wrestling Updates

Current Placements

  • The boys wrestling team competed at the 2026 KSHSAA wrestling state championship  on Feb. 27-28 and had members place 4th and 6th out of 112 competitors
  • Senior Noah Jewell placed fourth in the 175-lb competition group at state, and Senior John Gagen placed sixth in the 165-lb competition group. They both spend their free time practicing and also spend time focussing on their conditioning which puts them at an advantage.
  • “As great as that was, I think Noah and I both share the opinion that on our best days we both could have won, which is bittersweet,” Gagen said.

Upcoming Competitions

  • The season has concluded for the team and they're going into the off season..

Strength and Weaknesses

  • According to Gagen, the team's strengths include its coaching staff and conditioning. Wrestlers credit the coaches for preparing the team unlike other coaches. According to Gagen, Jewell was able to wear competition down and didn't get tired like other team's players thanks to the conditioning the team had undergone.
  • According to Gagen, one of the team's weaknesses was  that there wasn't a strong youth wrestling culture around SM East, putting the team at a disadvantage compared to programs that do have players who started wrestling at a young age.
