To Remember Victims of Asian Hate Crimes, The Kansas City Community Gathers To Hold A Vigil At Cafe Cà Phê

Jackie Nguyen, owner of Cafe Cà Phê, organized a rally and vigil on Sunday, March 28th to stand up against Asian hate. Supporters gathered outside of Cafe Cà Phê as various speakers from around the Kansas City and AAPI community recounted their experiences combating hateful actions.

“Even if I was not a part of cafe cafe, I would have been, absolutely would have been here,” Cafe Cà Phê manager Madoka Koguchi said. “As an Asian, I am not Asian American, I’m Asian. But to show up for myself and for my people – my entire family lives lives in Japan – but still, this is my future, my future children will look like me and I have to protect them, I have to protect her like Bety’s future child, who’s going to be born a very soon. I needed to show up here to first of all, comfort myself because I needed to know that I’m not the only one person who’s going through this.”
