The Plan for Prom: A look at East’s COVID-19-safe prom plan

StuCo’s pitch for a COVID-19-safe prom was approved by the district on Tuesday, March 23. Similar to previous years, prom will be at Union Station on May 8 and is open to all juniors and seniors.

Senior and Student Body President Sophie Rice is looking forward to the in-person event after last year’s prom was canceled.

“We haven’t gotten a lot of in-person events, a lot of the milestones of high school that we typically get have been completely disregarded because COVID-19 safety takes the first priority,” Rice said. “But I think they’re able to do prom safely and I am so excited, I really am.”

The rules and details are still being hashed out, according to Rice, but there are a few definite guidelines already set.

Masks are required at all times, no guests from other schools are allowed and transportation in big groups is discouraged. When the students enter Union Station, there will be a QR code that asks if they’ve had a fever or any COVID-19 symptoms in the last 24 hours. There will also be two one-and-a-half-hour slots to help with social distancing.
