Superintendent Announces his Retirement

Dr. Gene Johnson, the superintendent of the Shawnee Mission School District, has stated that he plans to retire from the school district this summer. His first job in the district was as the principal of the Don Bonjour Elementary school in 1986 and he has been superintendent since 2008. The board of education hopes to name Dr. Johnson’s successor by this spring. Dr. Johnson is responsible for financial decisions such as deciding to close Mission Valley Middle School last year.
