Breaking News: Social skills class takes first place at the annual Shawnee Mission School District Job Olympics

The social skills class won first place at the annual Shawnee Mission Schools Job Olympics yesterday morning.

They competed against all SMSD high schools and middle schools. Students complete various tasks simulating what a job is like, including the application and interview process. The goal of the event is to show students their array of job options after school, help them learn skills many jobs require, and showcase their abilities to potential employers.

“We were pretty confident going in we would win,” freshman and Social Skills student Colin Phelan said.

The students had been looking forward to the event and were excited about all the new skills they learned, on top of their win.
