This upcoming weekend the varsity girls soccer team will be going to St. Louis for a tournament. All together there will be 22 girls going on the trip along with head coach Jamie Kelly and assistant coach Britt Sherer.

They will play three games within 24 hours, beginning with Friday night at 5:30 a.m. against. Parkway South. Then, the team plays Saturday at 12:00 p.m. versus St. Joseph Academy and finishes with a game at 3:00 p.m. versus Incarante Ward.

Right now their formation consists of four defenders, two defensive midfielders, three attacking midfielders and one forward. Kelly also says one of the main focuses for the team has been an emphasis on the outside defenders to help out and attack on offense.  But the entire formation is subject to change depending on the opponent they face, according to Kelly.

Previously, the best the team has ever done in St. Louis was end with a record of two wins and one tie, but most of the time they usually come out with 1 win or two losses or even one win, one tie and one loss.

Coach Kelly says the competition is intense and the main goal of going to St. Louis is to prepare the girls for a higher level of play that can then translate to playing better in Kansas. With the demands of playing three games in less than 24 hours, he also hopes to come out of the weekend injury free.

So far this season in their first two games the girls have scored a total of 17 goals and only given up two. Coach Kelly plans for the kills to improve every game and hopefully win league, then by doing that put themselves in a position to make a run at the State Title.
