School Shooting Rumors Untrue

On Thursday, April 14 rumors began flying of a possible school shooting at Shawnee Mission East on Friday, April 15th. That evening, the Shawnee Mission School District sent out a recorded message stating that the rumors were untrue and that parents and students should have nothing to worry about. Shawnee Mission East School Resource Officer and Prairie Village Police Officer Joe Porter said “there is absolutely no truth behind the rumors of a school shooting.”

The scare caused some students to stay home, yet Porter says “there are no East kids involved, the threat involved a different school in a different district,” he continued by saying “I can’t say which school, but they are aware of the situation and East students should just go about their daily business.”
