Sampling the Shatto: Staffer tries and reviews various milk flavors from Shatto Milk Company

Local dairy farm Shatto Milk Company is known for their unique flavors for each of their products, ranging from regular cheese and garlic butter to absurd — but surprisingly delicious —  milks like Cotton Candy, Cookies & Cream, Banana and Coffee.

With such a wide variety of unusual products, I had to see if they were really worth it.

Strawberry milk-

Though it’s one of their more basic flavors, Shatto’s Strawberry milk is still a staple, with an even ratio of fruit-flavoring in it and milk — mimicking the flavor of strawberry ice cream perfectly, without it being too strong. It didn’t have the artificial and overpowering flavor that other brands of flavored milk tend to have, which is the main reason this was my favorite product. It’s richer than similar milks from my local grocery store.

Root Beer-

Arguably one of the most exotic flavors offered, the Root Beer milk was my second favorite of the three. At first, the diluted root beer smell made me question my milk choice, however, the first sip changed my mind.

I was happily shocked with the astonishingly similar flavor to a root beer float. I was skeptical of the idea of mixing milk and a water based soda, but it tastes like vanilla ice cream with root beer in it. I feel like naming the product “Root Beer” is misleading — Root Beer Float is a much more fitting name.

Orange Dream-

Orange Creamsicle ice cream bars normally give me the nostalgia of ice cream trucks and happy childhood memories, but I didn’t find any nostalgia in Orange Dream.

I’ll admit: mimicking the iconic ice cream flavor and making it a milk sounds appealing, but I wasn’t a huge fan. The tart and way too sweet orange flavor caught me off guard. While I love Orange Creamsicles, the milk adaptation didn’t work. I don’t hate this flavor, but the other flavor options from Shatto are far superior.
