Recap: Boys’ Soccer vs. Gardner Edgerton

With their season on the line, the boys’ soccer team earned their next game with a 4-0 win over Gardner Edgerton Trailblazers on Tuesday night. The Lancers advance in their Regional to play Blue Valley Northwest on Thursday night.

Senior striker Ari Throckmorton opened the scoring in the first half, putting one past the Trailblazers’ keeper early in the match. Dominating possession, the Lancers struggled to get past the back four of the Trailblazers and went into the half 1-0.

But Gardner Edgerton couldn’t stop the Lancers attack in the second half. After being denied by the keeper on an early run, Throckmorton struck again, slotting the ball home and scoring his second of the night to double the Lancer lead in the 31 minute. Minutes later, junior midfielder Derrick McClanahan sent the ball into the back of the net from the top of the box, to make it 3-0 Lancers.

Gardner Edgerton had a few fast breaks, but weren’t able to get past junior keeper Thomas Allegri who was able to preserve the Lancer clean sheet. With under five minutes left, Throckmorton wrapped it up, slamming the ball past the keeper up into the center of the net for his first high school hat-trick.

On Thursday, the Lancers play Blue Valley Northwest, last years State champions. BVN is 13-2-1 on the season, and in their last meeting, they beat the Lancers 6-2.
