Paying Less: A review of the Payless Bin store located on 89th and Wornall

As a self-proclaimed “shopaholic,” I’m always ordering clothes on Amazon and buying graphic T-shirts at various thrift stores around Kansas City. So when I heard about the Payless Bin store on 89th and Wornall, I couldn’t wait to shop for Amazon items at a discounted price.

I walked into the store and immediately noticed tables and bins overflowing with Amazon packages and products. I was excited to look around and see what I could find, but the massive piles of various items instantly made me feel overwhelmed. For a while, I just stood there, taking a look at everything on top of all the clutter. Finally, I realized I would have to do some digging if I wanted to find something good.

Towards the front of the store were toys and fidgets. I dug through the piles, trying my best to find something worth taking home. All of the products were relatively cheap, so it was nice to know I’d be saving more money than if I purchased directly from Amazon.

Trying to find something in the never-ending pile of sticker packs and waterproof phone cases wasn’t easy. The Amazon goodies were cluttered on large, square tables. As I attempted to navigate my way through the pile, I ended up sorting through the same items. I became unmotivated seeing the same walkie talkies and random chargers. Was it even worth it to keep searching?

Thankfully, the wall next to the cluttered table was far more organized. I spotted high quality items ranging from Louis Vuitton purse dupes to bluetooth speakers. The cleanliness was much less stressful and made it easier for me to find items I wanted to purchase.

As I made my way towards the back of the store, the stress returned to my body when I saw cardboard Amazon boxes filled with drink holders and headphones. While there was an excess of boxes, thankfully they were sorted so none of them were overflowing. I enjoyed digging through these boxes much more, as there wasn’t as much for me to sort through.

All of the items I saw in the boxes didn’t seem to have any important use. I didn’t need any Pop It Balls or child cameras. Rummaging through the boxes reminded me of the Target dollar section — nothing seemed to have any value. However, the discounted prices were refreshing. When I found an item I wanted, it was never over five dollars, which motivated me to purchase more.

After sorting through what seemed like a million boxes, I decided to take a break from searching to check out the shoe section. It was my favorite part of the store. Each pair of shoes was organized by size and color, making it easy to find exactly what you wanted. They also had plenty of dupes to popular shoes, like Yeezys, for an affordable price of $10.

I couldn’t wait to check out the clothes after being so impressed by the variety of shoes. Being an Amazon Liquidation Store, I was expecting plenty of trending clothing options. However, all I saw was various long gowns and child-size dresses. I was disappointed that I wouldn’t be able to snag Amazon clothing for a lower price.

Once I got used to digging through the endless piles of assorted items, I ended up enjoying shopping at the store. I can definitely see myself going back to hunt for some more low priced items.
