MORP dance canceled due to lack of ticket sales

After selling less than 100 tickets, this year’s MORP dance has been called off.

MORP, a STUCO-organized fundraiser, was set for Friday, Oct. 25, and all ticket sales were to be donated to the Johnson County Christmas Bureau.

With the tickets arriving the Tuesday before the event, it was hard for the word to get out, and only about 25 tickets sold before Thursday night’s football game vs Olathe West night’s according to StuCo Student Body President and senior Eva Hill.

“I was disappointed that we had to cancel the event, but not completely surprised.” Hill said, “Although we did sell some, it was not enough to justify putting on this event.”

STUCO members are understanding of the student’s busy schedules.

“I was pretty bummed because I thought it would be really fun,” Senior Class Secretary Elise Griffith said. “but at the same time I understand because I know lots of people had different obligations that night.”

Although few tickets were sold, students are bummed to hear the event is no longer happening.

“I heard so much about it last year and I was really excited to finally go,” Francie Reda, new student sophomore said, “I think a lot of people just planned on buying at the door and it backfired on us.”

For the tickets that were sold, details are still being worked out whether the money will be refunded, or donated.

“I believe that there will be MORP next year because of its popularity last year.” Hill said, “Although there wasn’t much interest from the student body this year, I think that people will definitely prioritize this event more in the future.”
