Meet East’s 2020-2021 Student Council Executive Board

On March 5, the East student body voted for their 2020-2021 Student Council Executive Board members. The election’s results were announced the following day on the @smestuco Instagram account. Here’s a little bit about the upcoming seniors on the Exec Board:

President Sophie Rice:

Q: What are you looking forward to the most next year?

A: “I’m really excited to give the Lancer Day speech. I think that’s something kind of iconic because I remember my freshman year when my brother was also the student body president, so it’s really cool to think he got to do that and now I’ll get to be the person.”

Q: You’re hosting a dinner party and you must invite three famous people — who are they?

A: “Alexander Hamilton for sure, Catherine Erickson would be there and probably Mr. Bardwell.”

Vice President Maisie Sheets:

Q: Do you have any plans as Vice President for next year?

A: “We’re planning on continuing events like the Can Drive — that’s a big one — and Homecoming, but we’re also looking into doing a dog trot of some sorts or a spring carnival.”

Q: What songs best describe your work ethic?

A: “Yummy” by Justin Bieber. I don’t think that describes my work ethic but it’s a really good song and it’s stuck in my head.”

Secretary Henry Bunte:

Q: What were your promotion tactics for the election?

A: “I made sure to make a lot of posters and just get the word out that I was running because I was opposed.”

Q: If you were a new addition to a crayon box, what color would you be and why?

A: “Maybe like an olive green, just a calm and neutral color.”

Treasurer Claire Perkins Rock:

Q: What inspired you to run for treasurer?

A: “I was looking to do more, but I also knew there were people around me that deserved to be in the higher spots, so I kind of took the low road and thought, ‘if anyone beats me it’s fine, but I really want to help more.”

Q: What would you do if you won the lottery?

A: “I would say travel, but with [the coronavirus] going on right now, probably not. So I’d probably buy a new car. I don’t like my car.”
