Matt Chalk

Matt Chalk has been playing saxophone for seven years. Primarily self-taught, he began playing professionally at age 15. Matt currently leads his own ensembles and plays alto saxophone in several Kansas City big bands and small groups. Matt has performed at numerous local clubs and jazz festivals. Notable performances include the 2009 Telluride Jazz Festival with the Telluride All-Star Jazz Ensemble, the chance to open for legendary drummer Jimmy Cobb and the ‘Kind of Blue Band’ at Kansas City’s historic Gem Theater in 2009, and upcoming performances with the 2010 Grammy Band in Los Angeles. Matt has performed with/studied with: Bobby Watson, Louis Hayes, Jon Faddis, Vincent Herring, Bob Montgomery, and TS Monk, among others.

Dow Tate, its online and print publications have won numerous national awards.
