Lawrence Football Preview

The varsity football team will be up against the Lawrence High School Chesty Lions at their opponent’s home field.

Quarterback and Senior Anderson Maddox credits last Friday’s loss against Gardner Edgerton to the lack of execution on both offense and defense drills.

“I think we’re still getting comfortable with the offense, and the defense side has seven new starters,” Maddox said. “Just getting comfortable and starting to execute things will allow a lot for us.”

According to Maddox, the team has been working hard and doing more competition drills during practice in order to prevent another loss tonight.

Last year, East played Lawrence in a conference game and won the game 62-40.

As for this year, both teams are ranked in the top 100 of Kansas on Maxpreps, a website specializing in high school sports.

Both East and Lawrence lost their first football games of the season. East fell five points behind Gardner Edgerton last Friday night, while Lawrence lost against Olathe South by 16 points on Aug. 30.

Maddox believes that although Lawrence is a strong team, East will come out with a win due to their agility and effort.

“I think they have good athletes on their team, but I still think we play faster, quicker, and we are more physical than them,” Maddox said.

Lawrence High School is located at 1901 Louisiana St, Lawrence, KS 66046 and kick off is at 7:00 p.m.
