The boys’ Varsity lacrosse team will finally reclaim the top spot in the LAKC after taking down the previously first placed Blue Valley West. The Lancers’ 10-4 win was especially impressive because the Jaguars lost to Rockhurst earlier this season by one point in overtime.

The Lancer defense, anchored by senior goalie Jack Werner, was key to the win on Tuesday. Conceding only four goals was a huge accomplishment for East; Blue Valley West had previously averaged 13.8 points per game in their first four matchups.

The Lancers’ ten goals were scored by four different players, two of which were underclassmen. Freshman midfielder Milton Braasch had one goal, and sophomore attackman Tripp Mohr had two. Despite his own two goals and the six point goal differential, Mohr was still not satisfied with the teams performance in the first half.

“We won, but it wasn’t our best game,” Mohr said. “Luckily we rallied in the second half and played with great chemistry.”

Mohr’s starting spot on varsity as a sophomore is impressive, and his aggression and play making abilities have been vital to the Lancers’ success so far in the season.

This weekend, the Lancers will travel to Memphis to take on Memphis University School and St. George High School. This should be a great break from conference play against two talented teams before East returns to play St. Thomas Aquinas next week.
