I’m a Swiftie: Male staffer gives his opinion on Taylor Swift

Kanye, Gunna, Drake, Uzi and Lil Baby. There’s one name missing from a guy’s list of favorite artists: T Swizzle.

Ever since I got a taste of Taylor Swift when I was 10 from my little sister, I haven’t stopped listening. I’ve awaited each album, sung in the shower, played “Dancing with our Hands Tied” on repeat and I’m finally going to her concert this summer. P.S. I’m so excited. I can officially say: “I’m a Swiftie.”

I’ve never understood men who say they don’t listen to Taylor Swift because she’s too “girly.” When my sister turned on what my 10-year-old self thought was trash — “Blank Space” — I was so annoyed. I just wanted to listen to Trap Queen by Fetty Wap. But what I didn’t know is that I got something much, much better. Trust me — try “Cruel Summer” and you will instantly sing along.

For me, Taylor Swift is an artist that has a song for whatever mood I’m in. It doesn’t matter if I’m happy, sad, angry or lonely — Taylor Swift has just the song to fit my emotions. She’s also a great storyteller. Her songs have very meaningful lyrics behind them as opposed to some rap songs, with lyrics like, “They told me all of my cages were mental, so I got wasted like all my potential.”

Taylor Swift makes an impact on my mood, and she will do the same for you. “Shake it Off” hypes me up, “this is me trying” reduces my sadness and “You’re on Your Own, Kid” causes me to reminisce on my childhood.
Some boys may feel like Taylor Swift is too sissy, but I strongly disagree. Taylor Swift is just like other female pop stars that guys like such as Nicki Minaj — she’s smart, strong and has a great voice. And girls don’t judge guys for listening to Taylor Swift. If anything, they love it.

Taylor Swift is an artist that has me jumping for joy, and boys — she can do the same for you. Give “Getaway Car” a listen, and if it doesn’t have you scream-singing along.. actually never mind, there’s no if — it will.
