Honors Chemistry Tartrazine Lab

On Tuesday, March 22, Honors Chemistry teacher Susan Hallstrom and her 6th hour class performed a Tartrazine lab. The purpose of the lab was for the determination of a food dye using smartphone cameras and colorimeters. To do this, the students mixed different amounts of a yellow solution with water, and then compared their results to a sample of Mountain Dew to determine the concentration of dye in the beverage. Students then created lab reports using Google Sheets and online linear regression software.
