HB 2500: School Bus Driver Cell Phone Prohibition

What this means and how it can impact you:
If passed, school bus drivers will not be able to use their cell phones while operating a bus. They would be able to use them if they need to call central dispatch, when reporting a fire or traffic accident, when reporting a serious road hazard or medical emergency, when reporting another driver who is driving recklessly or in an unsafe manner, including someone who appears to be driving under the influence. This bill is intended to make bus rides safer for children riding the bus to school. There is currently no restriction on adults operating cars while talking on their cell phones.
