Girls’ Tennis – Week 3

The Lady Lancers have have been very busy starting off with the district meet last Saturday. After winning their number one and number two doubles’ matches, and their number three and number four singles’ matches, the tournament was postponed because of rain. So far, the team is undefeated in the meet, and head coach Sue Chipman sees no reason why this can’t continue.

“Honestly, I don’t think we’ll lose a match. We could easily go 40-0,” Chipman said.

Monday, the Lady Lancers faced off against Sion, where they were victorious in all but one match. On Tuesday, they took first place in the Blazer Invitational at Gardner-Edgerton High School. Then on Thursday, they played against Blue Valley West and won all but two matches that were only given up because of default. Friday they have matches against Sumner, and Chipman will bring the lower part of her ladder.

This weekend, they will be playing in the Pembroke Varsity tournament. Chipman said that she is going to have to “juggle” her lineup a bit because two of her top players are out of town. She does not expect to win the tournament because of this, but says that it will be a key learning experience for some of her younger players.

At this point in the season, Chipman is very satisfied with her team’s play. Although they have had some scheduling issues with players being out of town, she is very optimistic about how some of her team’s play.

“We’ve had some conflicts to juggle around, but overall our play has definitely met my expectations,” Chipman said.
