Girls Tennis Takes Doubles, Singles Titles at State

Despite losing the team title, the girls tennis team snagged both the singles and doubles championships at Topeka this past weekend.

Singles star Mimi Fotopoulos was finally able to capture the State Singles title after several narrow second place finishes the past two years. Junior Mollie Cooper was able to surprise a higher seeded BVN team to claim her second consecutive doubles title along with her new doubles partner sophomore Elizabeth Wilcox.

Despite winning the state titles in singles and doubles, the Lancers placed second as a team. The winning BVN team was able to maximize on several fifth place finishes that the Lancers did not have to secure a meager six point lead to take the title.

Junior Carolyn Welter took 11th place in singles, and the team of junior Maggie Fenton and freshman Meredith Shackelford took 7th place for doubles.
