The boys’ soccer team won their second game of the playoffs, 3-2, against Blue Valley Northwest last night. The team is now 14-1-1 for the season.

At halftime, the team was losing 0-1, and BVNW scored again at the beginning of the second half. However, junior Tommy Nelson and senior Clayton Phillips’ crucial goals tied the game 2-2. Neither team was able to pull ahead and score again, so the game was sent into overtime. Overtimes normally consist of two ten minute halves, but the ‘golden goal’ rule cut them short when senior Oliver Bihuniak scored with three minutes left of the first 10 minutes.

“[Getting the game-winning goal] is an incomparable feeling individually,” Bihuniak said. “But it’s even better to give your team the gift to play another game with each other.”

In order to make it to the state tournament, the team has to win two more games. The first will be against Olathe Northwest on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

“I’m very confident [that we will win],” Phillips said. “We have a lot of momentum going right now.”
