Gallery: Varsity SM Girls Lacrosse Defeats Lee's Summit 19-2 on Senior Night

Ten seniors were celebrated on the Shawnee Mission girls varsity lacrosse senior night on April 14, at Shawnee Mission Athletic Center, against Lee's Summit High School. Seniors Finley Feagans, Ava Fredrickson, Carly Kounkel, Emily McShane, LJ Morrissey, Megan Sederquist, Lola Stinson, Riley Thomas, Ruby Wasserman and Charlotte Wissel were recognized 30 minutes prior to the game. The game started with Morrissey winning the draw, and running it down the field to pass to Kounkel who scored the first goal of the game. Morrissey won the next draw, but it followed with Lee Summit High repossessing the ball and scoring. The quarter ended with three back to back goals by Mill Valley senior Riley Thomas, resulting in a 5-1 lead for SM. 

Half-way through the second quarter, the game was postponed because of a weather warning.

The game continued on Wednesday, April 15 at 7:15 p.m. SM scored quickly, making the score at the end of the third quarter 10-1. Lee's Summit was able to score once more at the beginning of fourth quarter, resulting in a score of 14-2. At the end of the fourth quarter, Mill Valley senior Riley Thomas scored her 300th career point. The final score of the game was 19-2, making SM’s record 4-2.

The next varsity SM girls lacrosse game is on Monday, April 20th at 6 p.m. against Park High School at Park High School.

Going into her second year on staff as an assistant photo editor, junior Ava Towner is so excited for this school year. Outside of Harbinger, Ava is involved in tennis and SHARE at East. When Ava is not taking pictures, you can find her hanging out with friends, nannying, walking her dogs, cramming for an AP class, or shopping. »

Charlotte Walton

Charlotte Walton
Starting her first year on the Harbinger staff, sophomore Charlotte Walton is so excited to be on the photography staff. Outside of Harbinger, she is involved in Girls Tennis and NCL. When Charlotte is not taking pictures, you can find her hanging out with friends and family, playing tennis, working and walking her dogs. She is excited for all the free food at deadlines and for all the new opportunities! »
