Gallery: Varsity Football Defeats SM West 25-0 on Homecoming

In their fifth game of the season, the Lancers faced off against SM West at the SM North stadium on Friday, Sept. 29 for the homecoming game. At the start of the game, West kicked off to East. With 8 minutes left in the first quarter, senior Ryan Dehan kicked a 27 yard field goal, raising the score to 3-0. West then made a safety foul, netting East 2 points and upping the score to 5-0. During the second quarter with a minute left, senior Luke Pearcy made an 8 yard pass to sophomore Jack Reeves who then scored a touchdown, raising the score to 11-0. Senior Ryan Dehan then attempted the extra point, setting the score to 12-0 at halftime.

During halftime, the Homecoming Royalty was announced. Seniors Charlie Muehlberger, Ella Howard, Lauren McGuire, Collin Ford, Blake Hanson and Tessa Herring were crowned.

During the third quarter, senior Luke Pearcy made a touchdown by rushing 4 yards with 3 minutes left in the quarter. Senior Ryan Dehan then attempted the extra point and made it, raising the score to 19-0 with one quarter left. During the last quarter of the game, junior Nate Phillips rushed 32 yards to make a touchdown, scoring the last touchdown of the game and netting the final score of 25-0 for an East win. After the game, the Lancer Dancers and the East band performed their piece “Door 13” for the first time in full costume. The varsity football team’s record now stands 2-3.

The varsity football team’s next game will be Friday, Oct. 6 against Olathe NW at the SM South stadium for senior night at 7 p.m.
