The Shawnee Mission girls varsity lacrosse team played their second scrimmage of the season on April 10, against Saint Joseph. Saint Joseph, a team based in St. Louis, came to Kansas City to play teams in the Kansas City Metro Girls Lacrosse league. The head coach of Saint Joseph is coach Catey Roux, Shawnee Mission’s former assistant coach. Before the game started, SM had a brief team meeting, giving shoutouts and awarding freshmen Finley Dutcher as their player of the game against St. James.
Saint Joseph defeated SM in the scrimmage 16-10. “It was very fun, and vibes were high the whole time,” said sophomore Stella Fredrickson.
SM’s coaches Marysa Barnhill, Kelly Marion and Mae Beins had arranged for Roux’s new team to play her old team, for the players to see Roux again and show her how far they had come. Roux assistant coached all of the girls in the 2024-25 season. After the scrimmage, SM players had time to talk to Roux.
The next varsity SM girls lacrosse game is on Monday, April 13 with Senior Night starting at 6:30 p.m. and varsity’s game at 7:00 p.m. against Lee’s Summit at home.

Entering her first year on Harbinger, you may find Liv armed with a camera and questionable amounts of Taco Bell. This sophomore photographer and videographer can usually be found on the lacrosse field or golf course. When not capturing people at East, she’s probably thinking about Chipotle or her next shot, either with a camera or a driver. »
