Gallery: Boys Varsity Basketball Falls to SM Northwest 68-57

Alongside the stands at full capacity, undefeated SM East boys varsity basketball competed against undefeated SM Northwest at SM East on Friday, Jan. 12. After the first quarter, the Lancers were down 15-5. At half, the Lancers trailed 37-19. The Lancers went into the fourth quarter down by 14 points but scored 7 points in the last minute and a half of the game. The Lancers outscored the Cougars in both the third and fourth quarters but were unable to win the game. Senior Abdoulaye Kanté led the Lancers with 22 points and 8 offensive boards. Following Kanté, junior Will Beck led with 14 points and 5 defensive rebounds. The Lancers fell to SM Northwest 68-57, making the team’s record 7-1.

The team will travel to Valley Center High School for a tournament on Jan. 18 through Jan. 20. The next home game for the team will be on Friday, Jan. 26 against rival Rockhurst High School.

When Will isn't running down the sidelines to take a photo, you can usually find him playing goalie on a soccer pitch or in the outfield of a baseball diamond. Will also likes cooking foreign dishes and trying them and being involved in The Children's Place teen advisory board. »
