East Vs. Olathe North Football Preview

With the Lancers currently standing at 4-1, East is seeking another victory in their game today against the Olathe North Eagles, who have a 4-1 record to match.

East hopes to continue their four-game winning streak that began after falling to Gardner Edgerton in their home opener. Last year, the Lancers beat the Eagles with 45-14 as the final score.

However, this year’s Eagles have won every game except for their match-up against Columbine High School, posing a possible threat to the Lancers. Last week, Olathe North took down Olathe South with a score of 35-14, and SM South two weeks prior to that, with a score of 51-14.

According to senior defensive end PJ Spencer, recent practices have been spent preparing to counteract one of Olathe North’s strengths — running the ball effectively on the outside.

“We know they have really good athletes that can run on the outside really well, so we’re working on keeping the edge nice and packing the box with a big front seven,” Spencer said.

Along with strengthening their defensive line for the upcoming game, the Lancers have also been working on their overall consistency and stressing the importance of putting effort into every play. Spencer believes that building their momentum will benefit the team later in the season.

“I think being consistent on both sides of the ball would help us out a lot going into week seven, week eight and then the playoffs,” Spencer said.

With only two regular season games remaining after the Lancers take on the Eagles, the team is already looking ahead to the playoffs, beginning on Oct. 26. East is set to take on Olathe North tonight at 7 p.m. at Olathe District Athletic Complex.
