Dress to Impress: How you dress is a form of self care through self expression

Contrary to the typical teenager, I love doing laundry. Doing my laundry means I get to have my favorite clothes clean, folded and ready for the upcoming week.

How I dress directly impacts how I feel on a day-to-day basis. If I feel good about my outfit, I’m ready to conquer the world — unfortunately, that also means that wearing something I don’t like is enough to ruin my whole day.

How you dress is a form of self care and an important outlet of self expression.

Generally, I don’t dress “fancy” for school. You won’t catch me sitting in class wearing a long skirt or dress, nor in a pantsuit and collared shirt. I would never trade my Ultra Boosts for heeled booties but I do dress in a way that makes me feel good.

It’s entirely possible to have high confidence in your outfits without breaking the bank. Dressing doesn’t need to be expensive to feel good. My go-to outfits usually consist of my Halara skorts and a t-shirt or East hoodie; comfortable and versatile. It’s simply not necessary to force yourself to be uncomfortable in order to be “presentable.”

I think that the most simple way to express yourself is through the clothes you wear, jewelry you collect or makeup you do. My go-to’s consist of a simple pair of small silver hoops and a few swipes of mascara.

Just like doing your skincare routine or participating in physical activity for your health, how you dress is always a good way to boost your mood.

Keep in mind that how you dress is a simple and fun way to creatively boost self-esteem. So don’t worry about finding the most expensive shoes or the newest styles, just dress to express yourself.
