Originals, movies and a whole lot of nostalgia: A look through Disney+

When Hannah Montana belted out “Best of Both Worlds” in her movie, the only thing I could think to do was sing along. Each scene of the “Hannah Montana Movie” brought back memories of drooling over Travis, dancing to the “Hoedown Throwdown” and crying during Miley and Billy Ray’s duet to “Butterfly Fly Away.”

Thanks to Disney +, I’m able to relive all of my childhood memories with one click of a button.

Logging on was simple and fast — the avatars for profile icons are much better than the ones Netflix provides — avatars ranged from Thanos to Gastan. Once I entered, the memories started to flow right back in and take me back to the “old” days.

Disney classics like “High School Musical” and “Wizards of Waverly Place” are on the streaming service — igniting flashbacks of me practicing the classic “Hi, I’m Emma and you’re watching Disney Channel.” They were always my favorites out of anything Disney made. It put a big smile across my face when I scrolled past them — I had to rewatch them all. Of course, the never forgotten Lemonade Mouth” was on there — a total classic. The songs were all in my head for the rest of the night and a few were added to my playlist.

The classic shows were back too. “Phineas and Ferb” were staples to Disney Channel, but I never realized the side characters were always missing. When Perry the Platypus pulled out his fedora I screamed of excitement. Zack and Cody’s shenanigans are back too — on deck and in the Tipton Hotel. It reminded me of when my brother and I watched – it was the only show in history we both were happy watching together.

There’s even nostalgia boosters for parents with shows like “Boy Meets World,” and movies like “Mary Poppins” and “Annie.” Mary Poppin’s “Spoonful of Sugar” never gets old, even in the intro I am still trying to figure out how she pulled that lamp out of her bag. Lastly, “Annie” — the tough adoption scene never occurred to me as a kid. There were tiny little pieces I had never picked up, but rewatching it — I missed major details, like Miss Hannigan and the alcohol abuse.

Both the newer classics and the oldies brought me back to the times when I would drag my babysitter into the TV room to watch movies like “Annie” and “High School Musical” over and over again.

Disney + also carries all Disney animated movies. They have all of the princess, from “Snow White” to “Frozen” and “Moana.” “Frozen” is the perfect movie to cuddle up in a warm blanket with, and I cant wait to see the sequel. “Moana” is just the perfect movie to dance and sing along to. Disney has brought back all of them or “out of the vault” as the program says.

Luckily, Disney bought Marvel — it’s impossible to stop obsessing over baby Groot. They have almost all Marvel Movies available (“Blank Panther” is being added at the beginning of 2020).  As an avid Marvel fan, I can’t wait for that one to be added, so in the meantime, I’ll rewatch “Endgame” for the third time. Disney + has allowed me to watch all my favorite series of movies and shows.

Another new added bonus to the program are the Disney + originals. The “Mandalorian” is a new version of “Star Wars”, and the “High School Musical: the series” show was not particularly my favorite — the modern characters made me cringe too much, they could never live up to Troy and Gabriella.

Disney+ pays the ultimate tribute to all things throwback. There’s even 30 seasons of “The Simpsons” and the movie “Game Plan.” I know what I’ll be doing over Thanksgiving break.
