How the class of 2021’s Quizlet page became a central resource for East students

Everyone knows the dreaded feeling that comes the night before a big chemistry test. When sophomore James Schipfer needs that last minute study prep before any test or quiz, he can count on the junior class quizlet page to provide him the resources to do so.

People like Schipfer and many others have grown a reliance on this quizlet group for providing these study materials.

The quizlet class was created by junior Blythe Bolar in middle school after her older brother told her about the study tool, giving Bolar the idea to start her own group for her grade level.

“I think it’s really nice that it benefits [juniors and underclassmen] and is a really good resource to rely on,” Bolar said.

In the beginning, Bolar made the group for her and a small group of friends, but since then, the class has grown to 290 students, with Bolar continuously getting new email requests to join.

With every addition to the group comes new sets of flashcards in different subjects. Because of this, flashcards for classes from AP Chemistry to French 5 are made daily for the members in the class.

“At the start, I’d always be adding my own study sets” Bolar said. “Now someone will add [a study set] and I won’t have to [make] them anymore.”

One of the main contributors to this class quizlet is junior Lily Utt. Utt posts new quizlets regularly, from AP US History final review guides to the monthly AP English vocab words to cell structure biology terms. According to the notifications Utt recieves when her quizlets are being used, the whole junior class utilizes and benefits from her study sets regularly.

“Everyone deserves to have access to help if they need it,” Utt said.

Especially when finals roll around, people expect her to make quizlets for the classes they’re in with her and wait for that new post notification to pop up on their screens.

For Utt, its not primarily about studying her own quizlets, but the act of making them that helps her retain the knowledge.

“I want other people to be able to benefit from the hours of work I spend on some of [the quizlets],” Utt said.

People like Utt and other contributors in the group, have not only provided study content for their grade-level peers, but also underclassmen in the same sense. Current sophomores can look back to find these year-old quizlets, made by juniors, that they can now use for themselves.

Schipfer, along with many others in his grade, have used this quizlet group to their own personal advantage. For Schipfer, it was the most useful in classes like Honors Chemistry and Micro Economics where there were already quizlets made.

“There’s a lot of times where I usually forget about tests,” Schipfer said. “I’ll check the quizlet [to] review words and it’s really helpful.”

From the couple friends that Bolar had envisioned would make quizlets for the group in middle school to the now hundreds of students relying on the group for scoring above an 89.5%, the junior quizlet class has grown more than Bolar ever expected — and it’s not expected to stop anytime soon.
