BREAKING: School canceled after power outage from wreck at 75th and Mission stalled classes

After a car crashed into a pole at 75th Street and Mission Road, East lost power and the school canceled at 9:00 a.m. after nearly 90 minutes of stalled classes.

Kansas City Power & Light told the school “8, then 8:15” for when the school would regain power, but no progress within the school was visible. It reached a point where an end to the outage was not certain.

Students were originally instructed to report to the lunchroom, after which they were told to go to their first-hour classes if “the classroom has windows.” They stayed in first-hour classes from 7:40 a.m. to 9:00. Most classes did not proceed with class material.
