Two East teams competed in the annual Academic World Quest competition yesterday afternoon after a year of preparation. The junior team placed first in the competition and won an educational trip to Washington DC in April.

The competition consisted of questions about history, politics, the world today, geography and global economics. The goal is to teach American high school kids about current events as well as enhance their knowledge of social studies topics.

The two teams from East consisted of seniors Anohita Paul, Caroline Gould, Michael Newbold and Henry Stechshulte and Juniors Rowan Gibson, Reese Algren, Abi Limbird and Jackson Helmuth.

Their year of studying paid off, and they’re looking forward to their academic trip, according to the winning junior team. They’ll be able to see the monuments and museums in Washington DC thanks to their win.
