Breaking News: The boys cross country team places first in the state meet

The Shawnee Mission East boys cross country team placed first in the State Championship at Rim Rock Farm on Saturday, Oct. 29. The girls team finished second behind Olathe West. 

Senior Wyatt Haughton led the boys, placing first with a time of 14:59, followed by senior Blair Ptacek placing sixth and senior Caden Peters placing ninth. The boys scored a total of 65 beating second place Olathe East with 78. Haughton set the Rim Rock course record and received the Rim Rock MVP award.

Junior Lida Padgett placed fourth with a time of 18:48, followed by senior Scarlett Pearlman placing seventh, and senior Jade Achen placing 19th. The girls team scored a total of 95 points, placing second to Olathe West with 46. 

“It’s really cool that all of our hard work throughout the season is paying off,” Ptacek said. “We knew we had a good chance going into the race and we executed our plan really well and came out on top.”
