On Oct. 23, John Horton’s parole was denied and won’t be eligible again until Nov. 1, 2023 according to former Prairie Village police investigator Kyle Shipps. This means he will not be released from prison.
John Horton was a janitor at East who killed 13 year-old Liz Wilson in 1974. Shipps began to look into the cold case in 2001 and tracked down old leads that led to new evidence which allowed for the case to be reopened. Horton was charged in 2003 for first-degree murder.
In 2004, he was convicted and sentenced to life with eligibility for parole after 15 years.
