Breaking News: Friday Night Lights football scrimmage cancelled

The Friday Night Lights scrimmage hosted by the Varsity, Junior Varsity, Freshman and Youth football teams tonight has been canceled due to heat.

This event was supposed to be the kickoff to football season, the team’s first season with strength and conditioning coach Mark Simoneau as head football coach.

Unlike last year’s Gatorade scrimmages, performances by the Lancer Dancers, Varsity cheer and marching band were planned.

“It’s disappointing,” Simoneau said. “I mean we were excited for the community event and the opportunity to be involved in that. So it’s disappointing but it is what it is and we’re excited to try it next year.”

The Varsity team’s first game of the season will be next Thursday, August 31 at 7 p.m., against Gardner Edgerton at Shawnee Mission North.
