The Lancer boys basketball team celebrated a narrow win last Friday, Jan. 31 in a rivalry game against Rockhurst.

East started out strong in the first quarter, leading 16-6.

By the end of the second quarter, the Hawklets led by three points, with a score of 23-26 at halftime.

With a roaring crowd of students from both East and Rockhurst competing with cheers and keeping the spirit alive, the team returned from halftime with a fighting mentality.

East fought to catch up with Rockhurst from the start of the fourth quarter with a score of 36-37. The two teams kept a steadily close score during the last period of the game.

After a layup from Nick Arensburg, the Lancers were one point ahead of Rockhurst with 4.9 seconds left in the game.

The Hawklets took a timeout before using the 0.7 seconds left in the final stretch of the game to make a quick attempt at a shot, missing the hoop and sending the East student section rushing out onto the court. The Lancers won 48-47.
