Recap and Gallery: Boys’ Soccer vs. SM North

On Thursday, Oct. 3, the East boys’ soccer team faced off against the SM North Indians at the Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex. The game ended with the Lancers winning 5-0, a better game for the 6-4-1 team.

Senior Johnnie Norton scored the first goal in the opening minutes of the half. He was followed followed by seniors Andrew McClanahan and Dylan Martz and an own goal from the Indians, making the score 4-0 before four minutes had past.

The Lancers held control of play for most of the first half, not allowing the Indians to create very many opportunities for goals. The Lancers’ defense, made usually up of seniors Trey Hoefer and Ben Tschudy, junior Elliott Renft and sophomore Michael Mardikes, gave a solid performance that kept junior goalkeeper Michael Moedritzer from being too busy.

The half ended with one more goal from the Lancers. The second half brought a revitalized SM North team that was still unsuccessful in creating very many offensive plays due to the Lancers’ ball control and aggressive defense.

As the Indians were getting worn out due to the Lancers’ quick passes and movement, the game ended with an unchanged score. The Lancers play their next game on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at the SM Soccer Complex against Olathe North. Tune into smeharbinger.net at 7 p.m. to watch the game live.
