Athlete of the Week: Paige Stanfield

Q: How does it feel to be a freshman on Varsity basketball?

A: It’s amazing. Yeah, so fun because all the upperclassmen are so sweet and supportive.

Q: What are some of your strengths and weaknesses as a player?

A: Some of my strengths are going up against bigger people than me and still competing. Weaknesses could be dribbling. I don’t have the best ball handling skills, but we’re working on it.

Q: What does the average practice look like?

A: Our average practice usually starts around 3 p.m., and we do our form shooting just to get warmed up. We shoot and then we usually do partner passes, and I shoot with Fina Kessler. Then we’ll stretch and get into some drills. Then maybe at the end of practice we’ll go over plays or scrimmage.

Q: How do you practice outside of school and prepare for the season?

A: Outside of school, I play softball so it’s really busy but I had a goal outside and I shoot and stuff.

Q: What does the relationship look like between players?

A: The relationship with the other players is awesome. They’re all so sweet. Outside of school, we usually try to have team dinners together and just bond and get a good relationship.

Q: When did you start playing basketball?

A: I started playing basketball in third grade. At my elementary school, we had a little basketball league.

Q: How do you feel the season has gone so far and what do you want from the rest of the season?

A: So far it’s been a little rough, we’ve had a lot of injuries. Hopefully next year it’ll keep growing and getting better.
