Sophomore’s PTA Reflections Essay Moves on to National Judging

After submitting an essay about his upcoming mission trip with the AMIGOS program, sophomore Will Bledsoe won the state Parent Teacher Association(PTA) Reflections contest and moved on to the national round of judging.

The PTA Reflections contest is held by the PTA in each participating state. The theme for the 2013-2014 contest was “Believe, Dream, Inspire.” In the fall, thousands of students entered in this contest, including Bledsoe. Bledsoe said that his mom was the one got him involved in the program.

He connected the theme of the contest to the trip he will be taking to Dominican Republic with Amigos this summer, a service trip that many students from East take part in.

“The Amigos program provides the belief that we can help out and provide a better place for these people,” Bledsoe said. “And therefore inspire them to do more for their community and dream about the future.”

The State Awards Ceremony will be held on April 5th at the Kansas City Board of Education.

National results have yet to be announced.
