Russian Invasion of Ukraine

Today is expected to be the worst day of the Russian attack in its invasion of Ukraine as more forces are suspected to be deployed. The invasion began Feb. 22, on the Russian president Vladimir Putin’s orders. U.S. President Joe Biden said that this is an effort to re-establish the Soviet Union. Russia will leave Ukrainian states Luhansk and Donetsk guaranteed security with Russian troops, meaning they won’t be attacked or seized, as they’re viewed by Russia as separatist-controlled regions or independent states.

Ukraine has instituted a state of emergency as Russia began missile strikes and bombings across Ukraine yesterday. They’ve called up all men ages 18 to 64 and have approved the right to self-defense, allowing citizens to carry firearms with them.

There have been rumors of the U.S. taking a cyber attack against Russia to take away their power and tamper with their railroads. This, however, has been denied by government officials.

Currently, the Russians are moving towards capturing Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv, advancing towards the major city from the south while simultaneously attacking the country as a whole, according to CNN.

As of now, 137 Ukrainians are dead, with 316 injured, after the first day of fighting, according to NBCnews. Russian casualties are currently unknown.
