Ben Henschel
(bhenschel.com) Senior Ben Henschel only has a few weeks left on staff, but he's holding on to every minute. As the 2019-20 Kansas Student Journalist of the Year, and runner-up National Journalist of the Year, he designed the current Harbinger site and manages published stories, as well as writing in-depths, local news and op-eds. He also runs broadcasts with the team, taking point on anchoring most games. Henschel is also in charge of promoting published content on The Harbinger's social media platforms. »

Jackie Cameron

Jackie Cameron
Besides being a rice cake enthusiast and awkward text sender, senior Jackie Cameron is co-Online-Editor-in-Chief of the Harbinger. This is her third and final year on the Harbinger and she’s hoping that her love for opinion writing doesn’t transform smeharbinger.net into her own personal blog, but only time will tell. Besides Harbinger, Jackie is involved in tennis, SHARE, Junior Board and IB. When she’s not working on homework or meeting Harbinger deadlines, she enjoys playing ping pong, buying oversized sweatshirts and watching Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. »

The Harbinger Staff

The Harbinger Staff
The Harbinger is the exclusive student-run news program for Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, KS. Staffed by approximately 60 dedicated super-students and overseen by advisor C. Dow Tate, its online and print publications have won numerous national awards. The publication is updated with daily published content including stories, video, live broadcasts, photo galleries and multimedia packages. Select stories are published in its print publication every two weeks in addition. Partnered with The Harbinger, harbiephoto.com is a website run by the student photographers of the newspaper and the yearbook staffs. Updated daily, harbiephoto.com allows visitors to purchase prints of high-quality photos at low rates that appear, and don't appear, in online content or print. Lila Tulp

Lila Tulp
Senior Lila Tulp plans on making the most of her fourth and final year on the Harbinger staff as co-Print Editor-in-Chief with her two favorite weirdos. As she randomly dances her way through the JRoom with her Starbucks order in hand, she hopes to annoy Tate as much as she possibly can, and bug new staffers with her unnatural love of design. Lila is also a c-team tennis stud, a previously disqualified state DECA member (thanks Carolyn) and an okay nanny. But when she’s not geeking out over fonts or doing any of those other things, you can probably find her aiding her shopping addiction, daydreaming about being a Kardashian or watching one of her 162 favorite rom-coms — all while drinking absurd amounts of coffee. »

Carolyn Popper

Carolyn Popper is a junior and one of two assistant editors of print on The Harbinger. Since her time on staff since freshman year, Carolyn has been on the swim and tennis team, sang in the women’s choir and joined DECA. She likes movies more than music and would love to go grab a bite to eat at any time (ever). »

Sydney Decker

Sydney Decker
With it being her third year on the Harbinger staff as Facebook and Twitter Editor, Staff Writer and Social Media Staffer, senior Sydney Decker is thrilled to get back in the swing of things. Sydney is looking forward to documenting this crazy year and sharing the stories of our students to bring the school and community together during this time of separation. If she’s not typing away, Sydney can be found at soccer practice, attempting to learn 3 languages on Duolingo, jamming out on the piano, or shopping for some vinyls to add to her record collection. At East, Sydey also participates in SHARE, choir, youth government, DECA and soccer. She loves Avatar, espresso shots, Frank Sinatra, pictures of baby cows and frogs and John Mulaney. »

Sarah Bledsoe

Sarah Bledsoe
Senior Sarah Bledsoe is excited for her third year on staff as a part of the Editoral Board, Assistant Design Editer and a Copy Editor. Outside of Harbinger, you can find Sarah in the library doing practice debates or stressing over another IB deadline. »

Maddox Mogenson

Maddox Mogenson
Junior Maddox Mogenson is extremely excited for his second year on staff as a Copy Editor and Print Section Editor. Maddox is also extremely excited for the school year ahead — mostly because there’s rumored to be a new Beyoncé album coming. Outside of Harbinger, Maddox is involved in Drill Team and IB. He’s super pumped to be stressing over deadlines and crying over Oxford commas this year! »

Caroline Chisholm

Caroline Chisholm
A musical enthusiast and the ultimate scaredy cat, senior Caroline Chisholm is bittersweet about completing her fourth and final year on Harbinger Staff as co-Print Editor-In-Chief. When not diligently working on writing, designing or editing, you can find Caroline scrolling through Nordstrom’s website or laughing hysterically at her own jokes. Caroline’s athletic career at East includes four years of girls soccer and tennis. She enjoys being Vice President of her class on StuCo, volunteering with SHARE and competing in competitions with DECA. When not busy with all things East, she works at a children’s boutique and spends her time binging Summer House and Vanderpump Rules. »

Kelly Murphy

Kelly Murphy
Senior Kelly Murphy is excited to tackle her third year on staff as a Copy Editor, Staff Writer/Designer and Social Media Staffer. She can’t wait to continue improving upon her writing, editing, interviewing, and designing skills — all while enjoying her final year on staff. Along with Harbinger, Kelly’s involved in tennis, SHARE, Junior Board, choir, and Link Crew at East. When she isn’t busy meeting Harbinger deadlines or doing copious amounts of homework, Kelly loves grabbing food with friends, spoiling her two cats, and traveling the world with her family. »
