Saturday, Oct. 26, East’s girls’ gymnastics team competed in the state competition, held at Olathe North High School. East competed against 13 schools in total,  including the Shawnee Mission schools, Olathe schools and both Lawrence schools. Competing for East were varsity seniors Sarah Gillaspie, Taylor Bell and Madi Lage, freshman Kalin Lamus and sophomore Lucy Tubbert. Although the team did not place, Lage placed individually on the vault with a score of 9.0.

The competition will be the last one Gillaspie, Lage and Bell will compete in together.

“This year was really hard because we had three seniors and we all trained together when we were younger, and this was our last time competing in the sport,” Bell said. “It feels like the end [an] era.”
