Wheels Vs Doors: Staffer’s take on the famous TikTok debate

Maggie Condon | The Harbinger Online

Over the past two weeks, people have been forced to take a side in the latest strenuous social media debate: are there more doors or wheels in the world? I’m team doors all the way.

In my house alone, there are cabinets, gates, windows and of course, typical doors but I can only think of a few wheels off the top of my head like the ones on our cars. Whereas there’s also microwaves, fridges, ovens, drawers and so many other objects that are classified as “doors.”

The world is full of office buildings, hospitals, hotels and more – all filled with doors separating each room. Though the argument can be made that everyone has a car with four wheels, cars also have four doors plus a glove compartment and trunk. That’s a six to four win for doors.

Frankly, I believe that people who are on team wheels are becoming desperate to prove their point, categorizing even door handles, gears and hinges. But, the definition of a wheel is “a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move easily over the ground,” so none of those objects can actually be used in their argument.

Team doors has zero reason to grasp for such excuses because we know that eventually, team wheels will realize that there are simply more doors in the world.

In the 196.9 million square miles of the world, there has to be more wheels than doors and if you believe any difference just simply keep reading and I’ll change your mind.

One of the first places my head went to when pondering the debate was the comparison in my own home. Between the four people living here, we have three cars, making for 12 wheels, and roughly 15 doors. At first the wheels seemed outnumbered, but then I thought of the wheels used to open drawers and the six suitcases we keep for travel, which immediately added another 24 wheels.

It’s obvious that wheels overpower doors in my home — a reality that’s emulated across the world.

I scrolled through my TikTok For You Page and saw images and videos of massive piles of used wheels that could easily hold tens of thousands of wheels. These could be anywhere in the world, and I sure am not seeing any football field piles of doors.

Finally, I thought about common places around the community. Think of our local Target or Walmart alone — full of carts, conveyor belts, cabinets, remote control cars, hot wheels, skateboards and bikes. The list goes on.

Open the door to the realization that there has to be more doors than wheels in the world.
