Wait, That’s a Holiday? March 11th: “National Promposal Day”

Check it off the list: getting your hair done, nails done and picking out a dress. The last thing you’re probably worrying about is how you’re going to be asked to prom. But in the 2000’s it was a no-brainer, you get a promposal. Now, it seems like the trend is forever forgotten, traded out for a text message. Here’s why promposals should be more prominent in high schools.

Just a quick search of “promposals” on Pinterest shows me the time they were in without looking it up. With the grainy pictures and the tumblr girl clothing from the 2000’s is an obvious giveaway. According to an Instagram poll of 903 votes, 61% of East community members like the idea of promposals, but yet the trend has reported to dwindle down in popularity since the 2000’s according to Ralier news.

Why did the personality and creativity of a promposal turn into simply receiving a short-lived Snapchat message? Wouldn’t it be much more memorable to have a handmade, thoughtful “proposal” and a cheesy sign than a seven word text?

The effort and originality that goes into the thought of preparing the promposal signs and the sayings each individualized to the person’s interests show how much time someone put into the “proposal” aspect, instead of a five second text message.

Though we shouldn’t repeat every trend we had for prom in the early 2000s, like the dresses and the limos, promposals are definitely one to bring back.
