When East Fund Development Chair Kelly Kendall saw the Legacy Wall at Blue Valley North, she was immediately impressed. She pitched the idea as a fundraiser and way to increase school spirit to the East Fund board. From there she met with Principal John McKinney, who was a major proponent of the project.
“I thought that it would be such a great school and class spirit project [to bring to East], and at the same time I knew I could tie it to the East Fund,” Kendall said.
According to Kendall, the Lancer Legacy Wall is a project dedicated to East’s graduating class. Seniors can submit applications to have a six by six-inch ceramic tile displaying their name, activities they were involved in, and a special design for the background of the tile. A larger 12 by 12-inch tile will display the graduation year of the senior class. Each tile will be printed in Lancer Blue and mounted on the wall permanently. The Legacy Wall will begin from the wall outside of the Stage Gym and extend down the hall to the cafeteria.
Kendall hopes the wall will serve as means for graduating students to leave their “mark” at East.
The tiles cost $35, and all proceeds will be donated to the East Fund which will in turn use the money to sponsor teacher and student projects at East.
So far, 87 students have submitted orders for tiles, but Kendall aims to have at least 40 to 50 percent of the senior class represented on the wall. Orders are due Friday, March 7, but late orders will be accepted for an additional $10 up to Friday, March 14.
