The Lancer varsity soccer team pulled out a 3-2 victory against Lawrence High School Thursday night after trailing for the first time this season. After a weak first start, they ended the half down 0-2.
The Lancers managed to shrink the lead after senior Stanley Morantz scored off a corner kick with 13 minutes left in regulation. Senior Grayson Rapp tied the game shortly after, pushing the game into overtime.
Rapp later received a red card, forcing the Lancers to play down a player for most of the first overtime. In the final minutes of the second overtime, senior Clayton Phillips and junior Max Maday pulled out a last minute goal to secure the win.
“In the first half we played very timid,” senior Max Maday said, “At half-time Coach Kelly made sure we knew what the game plan was, and in the second half we got a goal and then we went into overtime”.
They will play again next Tuesday against Olathe South at the Olathe District Athletic Complex.
