The cross country team seized a win in the Joe Schrag Invitational meet held in Topeka on Saturday. All East teams claimed first place, excluding the boys’ JV and C-team combined race.
At the race, the boys ran a 5k, which is 3.1 miles, and the girls ran a 4k, which is 2.5 miles.
The boys’ varsity race was won by junior Will Moore with a time of 17:48 followed by freshman John Arnspiger with a 17:51. East also had three other runners in the top 10. Among these were senior Jack McDonald, sophomore Lance Meng and junior George Miller.
The East girls’ varsity team swept the race with seven runners in the top 10. Junior Hannah Arnspiger placed second overall and first for East with a time of 16:19, trailed by senior Annie Kuklenski with a 16:20. Freshman Katie Crossette finished right behind Kuklenski with a time of 16:21. The other runners included junior Audrey Danciger, senior Meg McAlister, freshman Hope Dunn and sophomore Maddie Wilson.
“I did ok I got first for East in JV,” junior Erik Harken said. “I wanted to run a faster time, so there’s more to improve on.”
East C-team girls’ claimed first as well. According to senior Sara Benson, the team did well and will continue to improve throughout the season.
“I think the team did awesome, we all worked together, even the people in the very back,” said Benson. “We pushed those people up forward to make the race just a lot better.”
