Gallery: Varsity Boys Basketball Defeats SM Northwest 56-51

The boys varsity basketball team defeated SM Northwest 56-51 on Friday, Jan. 16, earning the Lancers first win over the Cougars in four years. Both teams struggled early with foul trouble, combining for 10 fouls with 2:45 remaining in the first quarter. The Lancers led 13-11 at the end of the quarter, with senior Stephen Hlobik scoring nine of the team's points. The Lancers offense stalled in the second quarter, scoring just eight points. Junior Brooks Dillion found success from beyond the arc knocking down two 3-pointers. SM Northwest outscored the Lancers 17-8 in the quarter, getting a 28-21 lead into halftime. At halftime, the Lancer Dancers performed their Jazz routine before the athletic department recognized eight new inductees into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame. The Lancers responded in the third quarter, scoring 18 points and outscoring the Cougars 18-5. Senior Paxton Ochs led the quarter, as the Lancers found the lead back at 39-33 entering the fourth quarter. Foul trouble continued early in the fourth quarter, with Stephen Hlobik, along with sophomore Cannon Zubeck and Brooks Dillion, each reaching four fouls. The Lancers scored 17 points in the quarter, including five from senior Pearson Konold. Hlobik added six points to finish with a game-high 21 points. The Lancers beat the Cougars 56-51 to improve their 5-5 record on the year.
