Westwood View Elementary, Corinth Elementary and Indian Hills Middle School were all awarded the Governor’s Achievement Award for performance by the Kansas State Department of Education.
According to the SMSD site, a school must be “among the top five percent in reading and math at state assessments at its respective level” in order to receive the award.
The three schools received the award for their performance in the 2012-2013 school year. This year, 42 elementary schools, 10 middle schools and 18 high schools in Kansas received the award.
“Obviously I was very happy for our teachers and our families when I learned of the award,” Indian Hills Principal Carla Allen said. “The teachers and students have worked really hard and I’m happy that they are getting this recognition.”
