A law that went into effect July of 2000 allows students to help work and run the election polls. This idea aims to provide better awareness of the election process as well as showing students their rights and responsibilities as soon-to-be voters. The job is open to anyone who meets the certain criteria and is available to work on Election day, March 3 and/or April 7.
The qualifications needed to work at the polls include being at least 16 years of age at the time of the Election process and providing proof of being a US citizen. Furthermore, workers must be a resident of the Johnson County Area and must provide the election offices with a copy of their social security card for payroll compensation. Student workers must be available for the entire day, beginning at 6 a.m. through 7p.m. Workers will be paid according to how often they work; one day of work will earn you $110.
See www.jocoelection.org/workers/Student-Election-Workers.htm for more information about the opportunity. Sign-ups must be completed three to four weeks prior to the election. There is a limited number of job openings available to act now.
